Anyone can learn about the meaning of Passover or Hanukkah, but can they really appreciate the importance of bubby's homemade rugelach? Or why gefilte fish isn’t that bad? We think not. All the more reason to find a nice Jewish boy/girl. Or man/woman as the case may be.

Of course there are varying levels of religious adherence, so when you’re looking for someone of the same faith it’s important to think about what level of practice you’re comfortable with. Do you love to gather for Shabbat meals and holidays? Or would you rather be throwing back cocktails? If you’re mixing your dairy with your pork, you might not want to be with someone who keeps kosher no matter how cute they are.

Many people focus on things like “loves to travel”, “enjoys the outdoors”, or “can make a good brisket”.  However, it’s not just about who’s the better Jew or your shared interests. It’s about finding someone who will be there for diaper changes, will take out the trash, help you cook dinner when you’re sick, and give you a shoulder to lean on. Meeting someone who you can build a family with, (whether it’s just the two of you or you plan on having children), is of utmost importance.

Don’t focus on what don’t like, focus on what you do want. Yes,  you’ll still want to do certain things and visit far-flung places. But when you’re looking for a life partner your priorities do change. Look for the person that will be caring and supportive. And you’ll be making sweet rugelachs for the rest of your life.
